Serious injuries reported in ‘ultra-light’ plane crash; FAA investigating

PERRY TOWNSHIP — One person is in the hospital after an “ultra-light plane’ crash in Perry Township Sunday morning.

Crews responded to the 600 block of North Preble County Line Road after 9:30 a.m.

Several departments responded, including the Englewood fire crews and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Only one person was in the aircraft at the time of the crash. An Englewood Police and Fire incident report indicated that the occupant suffered a leg injury.

The occupant suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries according to Sgt. Brian Douglas, Perry Twp. Police Department Public Information Officer, and a report from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The occupant was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.

Video from the scene showed the plane was in a cornfield. A FAA report listed the plane involved as a Kolb Firestar II. The report described the plane as being destroyed in the crash.

It is unknown at this time what the caused the crash, Perry Township Police said.

The FAA is investigating.
