3-year-old boy identified as victim of deadly shooting in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 1:30 p.m. (APRIL 15):

A three-year-old boy has been identified as the victim of a deadly shooting at a Springfield home Tuesday, according to a police incident report.

Kain C. Thompson died from his injuries after he was transported to an area hospital, police said in the incident report.

It was not known if any charges are pending and the circumstances surrounding the incident were also not available.

FIRST REPORT (APRIL 14)

A 3-year-old child has died after they were shot on Clay Street in Springfield Tuesday afternoon, police dispatchers confirmed to News Center 7.

The incident was first reported as a medic call in the 1800 block of Clay Street around 12:35 p.m. A medic unit that arrived on scene requested police after finding a juvenile shot, emergency scanner traffic indicates.

The identity of the child has not been released pending notification of family.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, however dispatchers said officers are not currently looking for any suspects.

Investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation have responded to the scene, according to our crew.
