Billy W. Guffey, 26, of Dayton was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police said he was involved in two crimes in the city, according to incident reports obtained by News Center 7.

Police were first notified of an armed robbery report of an individual in the 500 block of Xenia Avenue around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers said in the incident report. The victim reported to police a man pulled out a knife and demanded his TV before fleeing the area on an electric bike.

A few blocks away on Xenia Avenue, police located and arrested Guffey after he tried to run from officers.

During the police investigation, officers found the bike had markings from Jimmy John’s and that it had been stolen from the restaurant on North Main Street in downtown Dayton minutes before the robbery call, police said in the report. The bike theft was captured on surveillance camera footage and the footage of the suspect matched the clothing Guffey was wearing after he was arrested on Xenia Avenue, officers detailed in the report.

The victim of the robbery said he found the TV while scrapping, but was approached by Guffey who demanded he hand the TV over. Guffey then pulled out two throwing knives and took the TV from the victim, police said.

Police would later review surveillance footage that captured the robbery that backed up the victim’s report, officers said.

Guffey was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on preliminary charges of theft and receiving stolen property. He remains booked in the jail Friday afternoon.

Additional details were not available.
