Police: Man shot woman who was hitting car with golf club

DAYTON — A man shot a woman who he said was damaging his car with a golf club and had threatened to shoot him.

Officers and medics were called to the Whitney Young Estates on Germantown Street near Liscum Drive around 8:15 a.m. after the shooting was reported.

After approaching the woman while he said she damaged his car, he said he “retreated to his apartment because he was concerned that the woman had a weapon,” a police statement read.

“The woman followed the man into the building, still armed with the golf club,” police said. “The man said the woman was beating on his door and he thought he heard a gunshot. The man said he shot through the door, striking the suspect.”

The woman was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and is expected to survive.

The woman is expected to face charges of aggravated menacing and criminal damaging. The man was interviewed and released by detectives.
