DAYTON — Dayton police are asking for the public’s help to locate a driver who fled from the scene of a deadly crash early Wednesday morning.
Levi Long Jr., 61, of Dayton was killed in the crash at James H. McGee Boulevard and Hoover Avenue just after midnight Wednesday.
The driver of the second vehicle fled from the scene as Long died from his injuries, a Dayton police spokesperson said in a media release Friday.
Police are looking for the driver of the second vehicle, described as a light-skinned, Black male, around 20-years-old, around 6-feet tall with a slim build. Police added the suspect also had either braids or dreads that fall just behind his ears.
He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and dark pants, the spokesperson said.
A Dayton police crash report indicates the driver who fled was at fault in the crash. The 2003 Honda Civic attempted to turn right from Hoover Avenue onto James H. McGee Boulevard when it crashed into the driver’s side of another Honda Civic traveling north, driven by Long, according to the crash report.
People with information that can help police in the investigation, or witnesses of the crash, are asked to contact Dayton Police Detective Rizer at 937-333-1142 or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 937-222-STOP. Tips submitted to the crime stoppers line can be submitted anonymously and could be subject to a cash reward if information leads to an arrest.
