Bomb squad removes WWII-era grenade from sewer in Dayton

DAYTON — Dayton Police have removed a live grenade from a sewer on West Riverview Avenue and detonated it at an undisclosed location.

The investigation involving the Dayton Police Bomb Squad blocked a portion of West Riverview Avenue in Dayton Thursday morning.

Police were investigating in the 1200 block of West Riverview Avenue, near North Broadway Street after a work crew found what appeared to be a grenade in the sewer and called police.

Officers said the grenade was an MK-2 World War II era grenade.
