Victim in I-70 semi stabbing dies; suspect faces murder charge

A 47-year-old Miami, Florida, man accused of stabbing a semi driver on Interstate 70 now faces a murder charge after the victim succumbed to his injuries, Wayne County Sheriff Randy Retter said.

The victim was identified as 55-year-old Angel Cruz, also of Miami.

The suspect, Pavel Nery-Gonzalez is charged with murder and aggravated battery, and is being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail, the sheriff said.

Deputies responded around 6:10 p.m. Aug. 15 to reports of a disabled semi truck on I-70 East around the 156 mile marker near Richmond, Indiana.

Two men were in the semi, including one suffering from “apparent stab wounds.” The injured man was taken to Reid Health in Richmond and transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where he later died of his injuries.

The investigation shut down the eastbound lanes for several hours.
