UPDATE @ 5:55 p.m.: A directed patrol focused on reducing gun violence and drug offenses led to the arrests of three people who fled from two traffic stops before busting into a house on Mia Avenue in Dayton.

That prompted a SWAT callout when two of the suspects refused to surrender, Dayton Lt. Eric Sheldon said.

The three suspects are on their way to the Montgomery County Jail, where they will be detained pending the filing of formal charges that could include burglary and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, Sheldon said.

The suspects forced their way into the house in the 700 block of Mia Avenue after police used Stop Sticks to deflate a tire on the vehicle they were in.

Their vehicle just happened to stop on Mia, he said. They jumped out of it and went into the house. The residents there quickly exited, the lieutenant said.

One of the suspects was arrested quickly. The other two surrendered only after the SWAT team set up around the home.

Sheldon said the first attempted traffic stop occurred on Wabash Avenue in Dayton. After fleeing from that location, the trio exited that vehicle, got into a second one and fled from a second traffic stop in the area of Wolf Creek and Olive Road.

The traffic stops are part of a multiple-agency saturation patrol in Montgomery County and in Dayton involving the sheriff's office, Trotwood police and the Ohio Highway Patrol as well as Dayton police, Sheldon said.

Police are still at the house this evening, looking for a weapon that was seen by police when the suspects changed vehicles. Police also are trying to determine whether the suspects picked the house at random or whether any of them have some kind of relationship with the residents at that address, Sheldon said.
