Superintendent: Northridge student posts false rumor about threat on Snapchat

HARRISON TWP. — One Northridge High School student faces school discipline, and possibly criminal charges stemming from a rumor of a threat.

The student did not make a threat, but falsely spread information that he heard a rumor about a threat on social media, Superintendent David Jackson said.

School leaders received screenshots of a Snapchat post around 7 p.m. Thursday, and immediately contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, he said.

Deputies visited the homes of all the students involved in the chats, and confirmed there was no actual threat, Jackson said.

“I made a one-call to parents and staff close to midnight to inform them of the result,” he said.

Even though there was no threat, school administrators and law enforcement wanted to make sure students and parents felt safe on Friday.

“We had police presence at all buildings,” Jackson said.

The sheriff’s office is reviewing the case to determine whether any charges would be filed against the juvenile.
