DAYTON — A search for a wanted man near Miami Valley Hospital and the University of Dayton spanned over three hours into Tuesday morning, but was called off without the suspect being taken into custody.
Dayton police attempted to locate a wanted person at Miami Valley Hospital around 11:50 p.m. Monday when that person ran from officers towards Brown Street, according to police scanner traffic.
Officers quickly lost sight of the man but notified University of Dayton police of the situation.
Around 20 minutes later, a UDPD officer reported he saw a man who matched the description of the suspect on Caldwell Street, between South Main Street and Brown Street.
By 1 a.m., officers set up a perimeter near South Main Street and Plumwood Road after the suspect was last seen jumping a fence near the intersection, according to scanner traffic.
An Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter was called to conduct a thermal search of the area, however the search was unsuccessful.
Police cleared the scene and called off the search around 3 a.m.
Additional details about the suspect were not released, but police said that the man they were searching for had warrants out for his arrest, and a weapon might have been found in the suspect’s vehicle.
