Around 20 minutes later, a UDPD officer reported he saw a man who matched the description of the suspect on Caldwell Street, between South Main Street and Brown Street.

By 1 a.m., officers set up a perimeter near South Main Street and Plumwood Road after the suspect was last seen jumping a fence near the intersection, according to scanner traffic.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter was called to conduct a thermal search of the area, however the search was unsuccessful.

Police cleared the scene and called off the search around 3 a.m.

Additional details about the suspect were not released, but police said that the man they were searching for had warrants out for his arrest, and a weapon might have been found in the suspect’s vehicle.

The University of Dayton sent out alerts warning students of increased police presence in the south of the University District as police searched for a person wanted by authorities. The warning told students to remain inside and lock their doors until an all-clear was given. An all-clear was issued at 3:02 a.m.
