A man has died from injuries he suffered after his SUV collided with a train on Tuesday in West Chester Twp.
Barb Wilson, township spokeswoman, said Rakan Shteiwi, 70, of Liberty Twp. died from injuries sustained in the crash. She said Shteiwi was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his black 2004 Infiniti SUV when it was struck by the CSX train.
Wilson said drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
Police have confirmed the rail crossing gates were functioning properly at the time of the crash.
UPDATE @ 2:15 p.m. (Aug. 23)
A man is in critical condition after his SUV was hit by a train in West Chester Twp. in Butler County. The man was transported to West Chester Hospital after the side of his black Infiniti SUV was struck by the train, according to officials at the scene.
Officials at the scene said they plan to have the road reopened in time for rush hour traffic.
FIRST REPORT @ 1:45 p.m. (Aug. 23)
West Chester Twp. emergency responders are en route to a reported train/SUV collision on Ohio 747 that occurred about 1:36 p.m.
Barb Wilson, West Chester spokeswoman, said one male victim has been transported to a local hospital.
She also said West Chester Twp. police were shutting down Ohio 747 between Port Union Road and Union Centre Boulevard due to the incident.
