New police chief takes command in Greenville

A new chief has taken command of the Greenville Police Department.

Steve Strick, a 22-year police force veteran, was sworn in Thursday, Aug. 31, by Greenville Mayor Steve Willman.

He replaces former Chief Dennis Butts, whose retirement was effective Thursday, our media partner BlueBag Media reported.

Strick, 52, was most recently the department’s operations lieutenant, a position he’s held since 2008. Greenville soon will fill the lieutenant position.

He later was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army during his enrollment in Wright State University’s ROTC program. He then served in the Ohio National Guard before joining the Greenville Police Department, BlueBag Media reported.
