Deputy admits relationship with informant, resigns

A Darke County Sheriff’s detective has resigned after he admitted an inappropriate relationship with a confidential informant.

Corey Turner, 39, who had been with the department since 2005, resigned Dec. 5, according to news release from Chief Deputy Mark Whittaker.

In the statement, Whittaker said on Dec. 1 Turner reported to his supervisor that he and a confidential informant had engaged in a relationship. Turner was then placed on administrative leave and the sheriff initiated an internal investigation, according to the statement.

Turner voluntarily resigned Dec. 5 in a handwritten note to Sheriff Toby Spencer, the release stated.

“There has been no evidence indicating criminal wrongdoing on the part of Detective Turner. There have been violations of Darke County Sheriff’s Office policy and procedure,” Whittaker stated.

Turner has been cooperative during the investigation, the sheriff said.
