Dayton police quickly arrest rape suspect; Victim’s mother speaks out

DAYTON — An 18-year-old woman reported she was raped at a Dayton home.

Within hours, police had a suspect in custody.

A Dayton mother spoke to News Center 7’s Sean Cudahy about the case, and her daughter’s shocking condition when she arrived at Miami Valley Hospital after getting a terrifying call that her daughter reported she had been raped.

“She was totally out of it, numb, slobbering, couldn’t open her eyes, in a wheelchair,” the mother said.

News Center 7 is not naming her to protect the identity of her daughter.

“I was devastated,” she said.

The 18-year-old reported she was attacked at a home on Genesee Avenue early Tuesday, just after midnight.

She told her mother the 25-year-old suspect — a man she knows — gave her some marijuana, but that she felt “very weird” after that.

“She was asking him to take her home, take her home, and he pushed her down and had unconsensual sex with her,” the mother said.

A Dayton Municipal Court affidavit states the suspect “laid on top of her, using his body weight to hold her down during the assault.”

Police responded to the home and were able to “locate the scene inside the bedroom,” the affidavit stated.

This led to the arrest of Ledonte Washington. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of rape.

His accuser’s mother said her daughter now faces a difficult aftermath.

“Don’t want to do anything. Don’t want to talk about it. She’s barely eaten,” she said.

Her message to Washington, the man she believes attacked her daughter …

“There was no reason for you to have to do that to her … and … you need some prayers, baby. … I don’t know how your life was but I’m sure it didn't have to come down to you taking something from a young lady who did not want to participate.”

Washington will be arraigned Thursday in Dayton Municipal Court.
