Investigation involves woman possibly held against her will in New Carlisle

NEW CARLISLE — UPDATE @ 9 p.m.:

Two people are in custody, and more charges are likely, as part of an investigation into a woman possibly being held against her will at a New Carlisle home.

Deputies first responded to a home in the 200 block of Jefferson Street, and spoke to one of the residents, when they were asked to check on the well-being of a woman believed to live there.

“During the course of their contact with that resident, they discovered that there was a possibility that the person they were checking on was located here in the residence but was not coming to the door,” said Lt. Kristopher Schultz of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies also discovered that the woman they were checking on had warrants for her arrest. They took her into custody after spotting her trying to flee out a back window, Schultz said.

Once in custody, Schultz said, “she gave us information that led us to believe that she might have possibly been held in this property against her will.”

The sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant, and also found evidence of other possible criminal activity in the home, he said.

Including the woman, there were three adults in the home, and a child also was present.

FIRST REPORT

Deputies and detectives are searching a New Carlisle home tonight as part of a criminal investigation.

Multiple cruisers from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and unmarked law enforcement vehicles were in front of a house in the 200 block of Jefferson Street.

Investigators were seen removing a television and other items, and a pit bull also was taken during the search.

Jefferson Street initially was blocked at Church Street, but traffic has since resumed.

A deputy said there is an investigation underway into a possible kidnapping.

Also, a deputy suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to be treated. It was not clear what led the deputy to become injured.
