Father of man accused of fatally stabbing mother, sister in Xenia died last week

XENIA — Court documents reveal a man accused of killing his mother and sister admitted to the crime, telling police there was “no excuse for what he had done.”

Winston Wright Sheppard is jailed in the Wednesday night deaths of his mother, 84-year-old Estella, and his sister, 57-year-old Ralphael. His father died last week.

Investigators are trying to figure out what triggered the argument that led to the stabbing deaths of the two women.

“We’re still trying to find out all the reasons for it, but it’s basically a domestic incident that escalated into this tragedy,” said Capt. Alonzo Wilson of the Xenia Police Division.

Sheppard, 55, moved out of his home in Xenia and back in with his parents and sister in August. His father died last week.

Sheppard admitted to the stabbings when he called 911.

“My mom and my sister got in an argument and I stabbed them,” he told a dispatcher.

“You stabbed them?”

“Yes,” he said.

Court documents show Sheppard made similar statements, with Sheppard reportedly telling police there was “no excuse for what he had done.”

There was a fourth person in the home at the time of the stabbings, Sheppard’s friend who also called 911.

Police said he is not facing charges and is not a suspect.

The double homicide was unsettling to neighbors.

“It scares me. You know this is just a nice, calm neighborhood,” said Marilyn Russell of Xenia.

But Xenia police say others don’t have to worry — this was not a random crime.

“At no time was anybody in the general public in any danger,” Alonzo said.

Sheppard’s case could go before a Greene County grand jury next week.
