Cincinnati police conducting two homicide investigations for same day shootings

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Police Department is conducting two homicide investigations for shootings that occurred Friday.

According to a press release, at approximately 5:20 p.m. District Three officers responded to the 1700 block of Weber Street on a report of a person shot and located 21-year-old Elijah Wheeler. Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the first of two homicide investigations released by the department occurring Friday.

The second homicide took place at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Laidlaw Avenue claiming the life of 37-year-old Matthew Rucker. Rucker was pronounced dead at the scene and a second victim was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

No suspects have been named in either investigation. It is unknown if the incidents are related.
