Coroner IDs man in car pulled from Ohio River

UPDATE @ 11:30 p.m. (March 27):

The driver killed when his car plunged off a bridge into the Ohio River 12 days ago was identified as David James Bouma of Milford, Campbell County (Kentucky) Coroner Mark Schweitzer told our media partner WCPO-TV 9 on Your Side in Cincinnati.

Bouma died from head trauma in the crash, Schweitzer said following an autopsy by the state coroner Sunday. His body was recovered from a car that was pulled out of the Ohio River around noon Saturday — 11 days after it fell in a chain-reaction crash off the Combs-Hehl Bridge near Cincinnati.

EARLIER REPORT (March 26):

A body was recovered from a car that was pulled out of the Ohio River around noon Saturday — 11 days after it fell in a chain-reaction crash off the Combs-Hehl Bridge near Cincinnati.

The body is that of a Milford man, but police did not release his name or age, according to WCPO’s report.

A press conference is expected to be held this afternoon with officials providing an update.

The crane pulled the Pontiac Grand Prix out of the water near the bridge then lowered it upside down onto a barge, according to WCPO’s report.

The red car fell from the bridge into the river on March 15. Police believe they know who the driver would be, a person who commuted over the bridge regularly and who was reported missing several days after the incident.

Dangerous currents had prevented crews from recovering the vehicle prior to today.
