KETTERING — There are many uncertainties heading into the new school year, but that isn’t stopping Ohio from hosting their tax-free weekend.

“A lot of teachers are coming in and they’re looking forward to get back into the classroom,” Perry Hensley, owner of F&S School and Office Supply in Kettering told News Center 7′s Kayla Courvell.
Items that qualify for the tax break are any clothing items less than $75, school supplies less than $20 and teaching materials less than $20.

In past years, Hensley said he would normally see parents or teachers shopping for their kids to head back to school this weekend but now there’s an increase in parents searching for at home teaching supplies.

“More and more homeschooling and it’s new to them,” Hensley said. “They’re concerned how it’s going to go and they’re excited and they’re concerned.”
For anyone who is not comfortable shopping in store, tax free items are applied online and for curbside pick-up orders.
Hensley said he’s seen an increase in virtual shopping and the items teachers are buying for their classrooms.
“They want to pick something that’s soothing, comforting, that will keep the kids calm and will hopefully get them through the whole day,” Hensley said.
Tax Free Weekend ends Sunday at 11:59 P.M. and is happening in stores all across the state.
