Coronavirus: Popular Ohio Sauerkraut Festival canceled

WAYNESVILLE — The Ohio Sauerkraut Festival in Waynesville has become the latest festival canceled in 2020 due to health concerns involving coronavirus.

The cancellation announcement was made on the festival’s Facebook page Thursday.

“We understand that this will stir emotions, and we want all of our participants to understand this decision was truly one made with heavy hearts,” read a statement on the festival’s Facebook page.

Festival organizers site health concerns as the cause for canceling the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival which began in 1970.

The organizing committee will focus on planning ahead to next year’s festival set for October 9 and 10, according to the Facebook post.

“These are challenged times for all of us, but with the support of our community, guests, merchants and partners, we are confident in our strong comeback in 2021,” read the statement.
