No charges in Richmond double fatal shooting

UPDATE @ 7:26 a.m. (Feb. 12):

Wednesday night’s fatal shooting was the first and second homicides in Richmond, after six murders in 2015.

Richmond police say two groups of people pulled up in their vehicles, with Charles Atkinson in one car and Virgus Browning Jr. in the other.

At some point, the two men shot at each other. Police don’t know what happened before the gunfire.

“We are searching for no additional suspects at this point,” said Capt. Kevin Wampler of the Richmond Police Department. “It will soon be a closed case.”

Richmond police say after interviewing the witnesses, they don’t expect to charge anyone in connection to the shooting.

Police did make an arrest at the scene though — 40-year-old Lori Clark from Dayton was arrested for drug possession.

Ron Ayers has a business about a mile and a half from the shooting, and said the news was surprising.

“I mean you just don’t hear that much of it around here,” Ayers said.
