Carousel Beauty College shuts its five locations

Carousel Beauty Colleges & The Spa Institute, a two-year, for-profit beauty college with five locations in the Dayton-Springfield area, has closed, according to notice posted on a door at its Springfield location.

“We deeply regret to announce that after 57 years, Carousel Beauty Colleges will not reopen its five campuses in southwest Ohio after the Labor Day holiday,” the notice reads.

In addition to Springfield, Carousel has locations in Dayton, Huber Heights, Kettering and Middletown.

At least one student said she recently paid more than $5,000 toward her tuition for the year, which, she said, costs about $18,000 per student, before she found out from 0ther students that the school planned to close.

“They just took my money without any notification that they were planning to close,” said Candace Bowshier, a 34-year-old Springfield resident, who was standing outside the Springfield school Tuesday morning with a group of her classmates waiting for the doors to open so she could find out more information.

School administrators could not immediately be reached for comment.
