Woman found dead in Springfield, police investigating it as a homicide

SPRINGFIELD — Police are investigating after a woman was found dead on the side walk in the 1400 block of South Fountain Avenue in Springfield early Sunday morning.

The woman is possibly in her late twenties and was found with a gunshot wound to the head at around 7:20 a.m., according to Springfield police.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not have the identity of the woman at this point and there is no information on suspects. They were able to clear the scene around noon.

The death is being investigated as a homicide, police said.
