Part of I-71 NB to be designated Veteran Suicide Memorial Mile after HB 276 is signed

Gov. Mike DeWine is expected to sign a bill into law Wednesday that will designate part of Interstate 71 North a Veteran Suicide Memorial Mile.

Howard Berry is one of the major proponents for the bill.

His son, Joshua, died by suicide in 2013 after the Fort Hood, Texas, shooting that killed 13 and wounded 33 on one of the United States’ military bases.

Even ten years after the massacre, families of the soldiers continue to fight for medical benefits and honors they believe they deserve.

It’s important to get the purple heart for my late son so I can give it to my 9-year-old granddaughter and let her know her daddy was a hero, Berry said in an interview with News Center 7 in November.

Veterans continue to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and House Bill 276 is one way to honor those affected.
