11-year-old identified as suspect in Bradford school bomb threat

BRADFORD, Ohio — UPDATE @ 2:38 p.m. (Feb. 9):

Miami County deputies have identified an 11-year-old Bradford student as the person accused of calling in a bomb threat to the school last week.

“The juvenile will be charged into Miami County Juvenile Court with one count of inducing panic,” Sheriff Dave Duchak said in a statement. “Our Mobile Forensics Unit was critical in identifying where the call originated from, as the call was “masked” through several Internet services.”

INITIAL REPORT:

Deputies in Miami County were dispatched early Wednesday morning to Bradford Schools after getting a report of a bomb threat.

The call came in around 8:08 a.m. Authorities said a bomb threat message was left on the district’s answering machine.

The school staff, along with deputies searched the school and found a duffle bag that was unfamiliar to anyone. Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to evacuate all students and staff, deputies said.

Authorities brought in a bomb-sniffing dog from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and after a more thorough search, nothing was found out of the ordinary.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office said they identified a juvenile who is a person of interest. They said no credible threat was found at the school and classes were allowed to resume.
