Coronavirus: What’s Next for Ohio? Preble County officials announce changes to Junior Fair

EATON — Changes in how the junior fair will be staged at the 2020 Preble County Fair were announced Wednesday night by the county agricultural society.

The 2020 edition will be a Junior Fair only because of Gov. Mike DeWine’s announcement this week to take all county fairs to junior fair status because regular, safe fairs cannot happen amid the current situation involving the pandemic.

The changes in the Preble County event involve how attendance will be handled during the Junior Fair, county agricultural society officials said via Facebook.

The Junior Fair Livestock Sale will be conducted as normal, but only those with passes or a wristband distributed by Junior Fair exhibitors will be admitted to the fairgrounds.

Each Junior Fair family will receive six wristbands, making them eligible for entry to the grounds and entry to the viewing area at the show rings. That means the number of people allowed to view the Junior Fair will be restricted.

Only those wearing wristbands will be allowed in the family viewing area. Families will enter the viewing area as their child enters the show ring and exit as their child leaves the show ring.

The wristbands must be worn all week.

Anyone who purchased a wristband during the presale offering will get a cash refund. Refunds will be available Aug. 10 through Aug. 31.

Those holding fair passes will not be eligible for refunds.

Masks are required, according to state mandate, and fairgoers are being asked to practice social distancing in all areas of the fairgrounds.

The Junior Fair runs Aug. 1 through Aug. 8.
