Todd, Julie Chrisley begin serving federal prison sentences

Reality television stars Todd and Julie Chrisley reported to federal prisons on Tuesday after a jury convicted them of tax fraud last year.

Attorney Alex Little, who represents both Chrisleys, said in a statement to CNN that his clients reported to prison on Tuesday ahead of the noon deadline.

In a video obtained by WSB-TV, Todd Chrisley can be seen arriving at the Pensacola, Florida, prison in a dark vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.

Court records show Todd Chrisley, 54, is due to report to a minimum-security prison in Pensacola, Florida, while Julie Chrisley, 50, is set to report to a prison in Lexington, Kentucky.

Todd and Julie Chrisley were sentenced to serve 12 years and seven years in prison, respectively, after a jury found the couple guilty of bank and tax fraud charges. Authorities said the Chrisleys, best known for the show “Chrisley Knows Best,” fraudulently took out more than $36 million in bank loans to fund their lavish lifestyles before they became reality TV stars. They later conspired with their accountant to hide their income and avoid paying taxes while making millions from their show, prosecutors said.

The couple has denied wrongdoing and said that someone else had control of their finances, according to WSB-TV.

In an episode last month of the couple’s “Chrisley Confessions” podcast, Todd Chrisley said that their attorneys are appealing their convictions, although he declined to say more, People and ET reported.

“Don’t think we’re avoiding wanting to tell you something, because we’re not. It’s that we’ve been told we cannot,” he said, according to ET. “Continue to pray for us if it’s in your heart and your will to do so.”

Millions of people followed the Chrisley family’s antics in “Chrisley Knows Best,” which launched in 2014. The show, along with the spin-off “Growing Up Chrisley” and the forthcoming Todd Chrisley-hosted dating show “Love Limo,” was canceled last year after the couple’s sentencing, Deadline reported.
