Or at least it will be. Mattel announced it is bringing back the show with a relaunch later this year, Entertainment Weekly reported.

There will be a television show, movie and YouTube clips, along with merchandise, such as toys, books and clothing, Mattel said in a news release.

Parents will not be left out and will have their own line of apparel and accessory featuring the Barney they grew up with.

A new animated show will debut next year and has not been named, but will be made for preschool-aged kids and will “introduce new audiences to the world of Barney through music-filled adventures centered on love, community, and encouragement.”

This isn’t the first time Barney was slated to be reintroduced to a new generation. Back in 2019, Daniel Kaluuya was planning on producing a live-action movie with Mattel. It is not known if that project is still in the works.

The original “Barney & Friends” aired on PBS in 1992, ending its run in 2010, according to IMDB. The show helped launch the careers of child actors Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. Gomez appeared in 14 episodes from 2002 to 2004, while Lovato appeared in 10 episodes over the same period.

Mattel has recently relaunched and reintroduced other intellectual properties such as Monster High and the 1980s Masters of the Universe, the company said.
