FORT MYERS, Fla. — Alligators are common in Florida, but two gators fighting at your front door are rare.
Susan Geshel was having coffee in her Fort Myers home around 6:45 a.m. May 26 when she heard a thumping noise at her front door. She looked outside and saw two 7-foot alligators circling each other, the Fort Myers News-Press reported.
As Geshel began recording on her cellphone, one of the reptiles lunged at the other, sinking its teeth into its adversary’s midsection.
“Joe, they’re fighting,” Geshel said to her husband in the video, which she posted to Facebook. “Oh my God, they’re fighting outside the door. One just snapped at the other and got him right in the middle.”
Geshel said the alligators stayed on her property for about 20 minutes before leaving, the News-Press reported. Geshel said one of the gators crossed the street and went to a neighbor’s home, while the other one may have gone to a pond, the newspaper reported.
It was the first time Geshel had seen alligators outside her home, where she has lived for 15 years.
“They made a mess on the front door,” Geshel told the News-Press.
