Scene 75 to reopen after Memorial Day Tornado damage

VANDALIA — After being closed for 18 months, Scene 75 is making plans to reopen their doors with new features, including an indoor roller coaster.

They have added 40,000 square feet of space.

“The biggest thing we started adding into the new space is bigger thrills, bigger rides, more excitement,” explained Scene 75 spokesperson Maggie McCartney.

The new indoor rollercoaster will be the second largest in the state and will feature a two-story drop tower.

These new features have come after the building was damaged during last year’s Memorial Day Tornadoes.

“It was absolutely devastating when the tornadoes came through,” said McCartney.

Areas of the building were flooded and sustained structural damage.

Construction hit a road bump when the coronavirus pandemic started.

“It halted the construction and has made the project a little longer than originally hoped,” said McCartney.

When the entertainment center reopens, they will have new COVID guidelines in place.

“Mainly the big differences are 50% reduced capacity in the building coming in,” explained McCartney. “We are very diligent with wiping down every single attraction as people go through. As well as games throughout the day with medical-grade cleaning agent.”

Scene 75 has not announced a reopening date yet, but will make the announcement on their Facebook page.
