LetGo app seller given counterfeit money during exchange in Dayton

DAYTON — A seller on the popular LetGo app reported that he was given counterfeit bills after a man agreed to purchase an iPhone in Dayton.

According to a police report, the seller met the man around 5:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Mia and Midway avenues.

The seller, who was sitting in his car, said the buyer approached his vehicle on foot and gave him $310, and in return he handed him a blue iPhone XR.

The buyer left south on Mia Avenue before the seller realized the money was fake. This prompted him to contact Dayton police on a fraud complaint.

The report stated there was a single $100bill, six $20 bills, nine $10 bills, and 20 $1 bills, all with the words “copy” and “replica” printed under the serial number.

The suspect is described as a male with short facial hair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

The incident remains under investigation.
