Union police reported they were pursuing a vehicle through parts of their city and Englewood around 10:30 a.m.

The pursuit continued into Miami County and ended in a crash at the 30 yard line on the practice football field at the old high school.

Prior to the crash, the driver lost control going around a curve on Jay Street and went airborne.

The crashed Volkswagen convertible has Tennessee license plates and did not initially come back as being stolen, according to investigators. Emergency dispatch traffic indicated the man in custody was telling officers he may have at least one warrant out of Tennessee.

During the pursuit, an Englewood officer reported their cruiser was involved in a crash at the intersection of U.S. 40 and state Route 48, according to police scanner traffic. Police said the crash was minor between the cruiser and another car that was not involved in the pursuit.

A district representative said the high school was not on lockdown due to the investigation.
