MONTGOMERY COUNTY — The Montgomery County Board of Health has named Jennifer Wentzel as the new Health Commissioner for Montgomery County succeeding Jeff Cooper, who is retiring after nearly 31 years of service.

“We are excited to welcome Jennifer as Montgomery County’s next Health Commissioner,” said Michael Sims, President of the Montgomery County Board of Health. “Her past leadership in a variety of areas and experience are a perfect match to serve the citizens of Montgomery County and advance our work in helping to keep Montgomery County a healthy, safe and thriving community.”
Wentzel becomes the seventh Health Commissioner since the Dayton and Montgomery County health departments combined in 1970.

“I am honored to be chosen to lead an organization that makes such a positive impact in our community,” Wentzel said. “I will be dedicated to helping the agency continue to provide outstanding service to its citizens and to further the advancement of health equity in our community.”
Wentzel has served for seven years at the Director of Environmental Health in Montgomery County. She began at Public Health in 2002 and has a Masters of Public Health from Wright State University. She also has served seven years on the Board of Directors at the Ohio Environmental Health Association.
