Moraine pursuit suspect caught after causing 2 crashes, police say

MORAINE — A Dayton man is facing felony charges after police say he caused two crashes while fleeing from Moraine police Monday night.

Kaleb Nothstine, 19, is charged in Kettering Municipal Court with two counts of failure to comply with the order of a police officer.

Moraine police were in the 4800 block of Elter Drive, where they spotted a vehicle leaving a suspected drug house without having a visible license plate around 7 p.m.

“Traffic stops have been recently made on vehicles that have been leaving that residence that have been arrested for possession of drugs and with drug warrants,” a Moraine police report read.

Court records showed Nothstine “took an unusual route out of the neighborhood” passing two exits before actually leaving the neighborhood, which police believed was an attempt to get away from officers.

Police caught up with the car Nothstine was driving on Main Street near Bessie Avenue. Once the officer following him turned on his emergency lights to attempt a traffic stop, the vehicle’s engine revved and sped off from police.

The vehicle fled on Gettysburg Avenue and turned onto West Third Street in Dayton.

“At the intersection of West Third Street and Abbey Avenue, Nothstine ran a red light and hit a Chrysler 300,” court documents read.

Nothstine ended up continuing on West Third and ended up hitting another vehicle at the intersection of West Third and Main streets in downtown Dayton, according to court records. That’s when the pursuit ended and he was arrested.

Nothstine told police he ran because he was scared.

The two people, ages 31 and 13, in the car Nothstine ended up hitting in downtown were taken to Miami Valley Hospital with minor injuries, according to a crash report.

The maximum speed during the chase was 90 mph, the police report read.
