MIAMISBURG — Communities in the Miami Valley can expect some relief from the salt shortage that has been a growing concern since a harsh week of winter weather.
The Vice President of Operations at Robison Salt Supply, Tony Robinson, said that last week’s winter storm created a high demand that he has never seen before.
“In 42 years of business we have never ran out. Never sent anyone away empty handed,” Robinson said.

Robinson said they are finally getting back on track as salt comes in from Cincinnati, Chicago, and Canada, and being able to restock their lot with salt is giving workers a reassuring feeling.
The local distributor already has plans to ship out thousands of pounds of salt throughout Ohio and surrounding states.
“Some of the guys are in here as early as 4:30 in the morning to get rolling depending on how far out we are going. We’ll go to Cleveland, Toledo, Northern Kentucky, Indiana,” Robinson said.
Now their main focus is getting in calcium chloride.
“Calcium and magnesium will go down negative 25. So that’s really pivotal right now because people might throw salt and it’s just going to lay there. It’s not going to do the job,” Robinson said.
The salt, which isn’t expected to last long, will be shipped out to communities or anyone within a 300 miles radius whose salt supply is running low.
