Hazmat crew called to Xenia Avenue in Dayton

UPDATE @ 10:20 p.m.: A truck of sand was brought to contain a small spill tonight from printer ink and solvents illegally dumped in a residential area in the 300 block of Xenia Avenue.

“We found boxes of printer ink that was illegally dumped in the alley, a small amount leaked on the ground,” said Capt. Andrew Braun of the Dayton Fire Department.

The spill was the result of illegal dumping, which Braun said is under investigation by the Dayton Police Department. Fire officials notified city water and environmental departments, as well as the Ohio EPA.

Anyone who spots suspected illegal dumping is urged to call the police, and to try to jot down the license plate and descriptions of the car and individuals involved, he said.

UPDATE @ 8:10 p.m.:

The source of a chemical smell is printer ink and solvents, according to the Dayton Fire Department.
