Firefighters extinguish suspicious fire at former Cooper Energy plant in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — A fire investigators believe is suspicious was extinguished quickly Tuesday afternoon at the former Cooper Energy facility on Sheridan Avenue.

The fire was reported around 3 p.m.

Fire crews said the fire was located in the back of the facility, which has been abandoned for the last 15 to 20 years.

Traffic was affected on Sheridan and Greenmount avenues while crews battled the fire.
