DeWine signs bill allowing concealed carry without a permit

Governor Mike DeWine has signed Senate Bill 215 into law.

The law allows Ohioans who are 21 and older, and legally able to carry a gun, to carry a handgun concealed for any lawful purpose without the need for a license or other paperwork.

Ohioans can still apply for a CCW permit, but it is no longer mandatory.

“The Constitution does not require you to get a license. It is your Constitutional right,” Sen. Niraj Antani (R-Dayton), a co-sponsor of the bill, told New Center 7 in December.

Opponents of the bill, like State Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland), previously said the state’s current requirement for concealed carry was the bare minimum, according to a report from the Columbus Dispatch.
