Coronavirus: Local airman’s reunion with family postponed due to virus

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

SOUTH CHARLESTON — Senior Airman Paul Joseph Banion was supposed to reunite with his family after serving in Qatar since September 1st.

However last week, the U.S. Defense Secretary signed a 60-day freeze on overseas troop movements. The order affected both those scheduled to come home and those scheduled to deploy overseas.

This means Paul Joseph, also known as P.J., would be delayed at least a month.

P.J.’s family gives this advice to other military family: Just be positive.

“Especially when you're talking to your airmen: Marine, Navy -- just be positive,” said Cecile Banion, P.J.’s mom. “I just say my prayers, have faith, have a lot of faith.”

A career in journalism never really was a serious thought until the end of high school. You just have epiphanies sometimes, and that's the only way I can explain why I got into this line of work – but I'm happier for it!
