DAYTON — Recent extremely cold temperatures and winter weather have caused a blood supply shortage, according to Versiti.

Versiti is asking for donors of all blood types to replenish the local blood supply.

The blood center at 349 South Main Street in Dayton is open for appointments Monday through Saturday, Versiti says.

“Every blood donation significantly increases the chances of survival for patients in critical conditions. Your donation is valuable and worth the effort it takes to give because it can directly transform emergency room outcomes, from surgeries to trauma cases,” said Tracy Morgan, Vice President for Donor Services at Versiti Blood Center of Ohio. “Help us save lives by bundling up and coming out to donate blood.”

Blood supply often drops this time of year, Versiti says, due to travel, seasonal illnesses and severe weather. The recent snow storm closed some blood centers and blood drives, only making the problem worse, Versiti says.

Donors who visit the Dayton center will get a Chick-fil-A coupon, according to Versiti. Mobile drives will be handing out a special edition Versiti sweatshirt.

Appointments can be made by calling (937) 461-3220, but walk-ins are also welcome, Versiti says.
