UPDATE: Man accused of causing hours-long search in Clark Co. cornfield arrested Thursday

PIKE TWP., Clark County — UPDATE @ 3:30 p.m. (Sept. 23):

A man who deputies said caused a hours-long search in a Clark County cornfield earlier this week has been identified and arrested after a separate incident involving a stolen vehicle.

Luke Anthony Adams, 30, was arrested around midnight Thursday morning following an investigation into a stolen vehicle that was found at the Speedway gas station on Urbana Road in Springfield, deputies said in an updated media release.

A deputy spotted a vehicle he believed was stolen that was parked at the gas pumps at the station. The deputy approached the vehicle, spotted a man later identified as Adams, and took in him into custody.

While searching the vehicle deputies found a bag that contained a handgun on the passenger side of vehicle.

Adams was charged with receiving stolen property, improperly handing a firearm in a motor vehicle and having weapons under disability.

Deputies later identified Adams as the suspect who ran from them into a cornfield north of New Carlisle Tuesday. Charges in that incident are still pending.

PREVIOUS REPORT: (Sept. 22):

Clark County deputies are asking for the public’s help in identifying and helping locate a man who eluded capture by running into a cornfield, sparking a hours-long search north of New Carlisle Tuesday.

The search started around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on state Route 235 near Marquart Road, which is about three miles north of New Carlisle. Deputies were called to investigate a report of a suspicious person who was walking around a house, deputies said in a media release issued Wednesday morning.

A deputy located the man and asked for his information, however that information didn’t come back correctly through dispatch records, deputies said in the release. When an additional unit showed up, the man fled into a nearby cornfield.

Deputies along with a drone and K-9 officers searched the field into the afternoon before suspending the search around 2:15 p.m.

Deputies released photos of the man Wednesday, describing him as around 5-feet 6-inches tall, 140 pounds, with long brown hair. He could possibly be driving a stolen 2003 dark green Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV with Ohio license plate HDT 2353.
