Neighbor says attack on Vietnam vet makes him 'sick to his stomach'

A man chased down two robbers who broke in and attacked his neighbor.

Charles Kilbarger told police he was "sick to his stomach" that the suspects would violate his neighbor, who is a disabled Vietnam veteran, according to a police report.

The armed robbery happened yesterday around 10:30 p.m. on Knox Avenue.

Kilbarger said he spotted the suspects and recognized one of them. He followed them in his car to where they were apparently hiding in a vacant house.

Police arrested Cody Roberts, 24, and Malik Wilkinson Jr., 18, according to the report. Both men are being held in jail on informal charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

The victim, 65-year-old John Razaufkaf, told police the men kicked down his door and tackled him.

He said they were wearing masks and threatened to shoot him if he tried to fight back, according to the report.

"They had a gun, and they jumped on me on the couch and held me down," he said today. "They kept saying they would shoot me if I didn't give them any money."

Razaufkaf said he's been in combat, but the violent attack was alarming.

He told officers the attackers did not give him time to beg for mercy, and they stole his wallet, cash, cell phone and some power tools, according to the report.

"It still makes you want to have a gun, and have it right by you all the time," Razaufkaf said.

The initial report was that a couple lived in the home, but Razaufkaf told police he was the only victim.
