UPDATE @ 2:52 p.m.:

Dayton public school officials said the man who prompted a lockdown at Westwood Elementary this morning never made it past the front office of the school.

The man had previously been scheduled to be a substitute teacher at the elementary, however the district was made aware of an investigation involving the man yesterday and placed him on an inactive list, according to Jill Moberley, spokeswoman for Dayton Public Schools.

We have identified the man involved in this case, however we are not naming him since he has not been charged.

According to a call placed by the district to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center, the man was already at the school in an “interview room” with a police jurisdiction, when officials requested Dayton police to the elementary to trespass the man from all Dayton Public Schools properties.

The circumstances surrounding the investigation have not been released and Miamisburg police, who Dayton police told our crews were the investigating agency of today’s incident, have not provided any details into the case.

Miamisburg police said the case is an ongoing investigation and did not wish to comment.

UPDATE @ 2:00 p.m.:

A man that prompted a lockdown at a Dayton elementary school this morning is no longer an employee with the contractor that provides substitute teachers for Dayton Public Schools, according to a company spokesperson.

Tammy Rosenburg, vice president of Parallel Education Division, said the man was a former employee of the company and “was not scheduled to go to that school”.

“Why he showed up there I’m not sure,” Rosenburg said.

Rosenburg said she could not release any details about the reason for the man no longer being an employee with the company, however she said she was not aware of any criminal investigations involving the man.

UPDATE@ 11:42 a.m.:

Westwood Elementary School was placed on lockdown for eight minutes this morning after a man, who had been trespassed from the school was on school property, according to the district.

The man, who is employed by Parallel, a company the school contracts with to provide substitute teachers, prompted the lockdown, said Jill Moberley, spokeswoman for Dayton Public Schools.

According to Moberley, the man, who has not been identified, was not working at the elementary school today as a substitute and he has been placed in an “inactive file”. Moberley said that an inactive file means the district was not to contact him for substitute jobs.

Moberley said it’s unclear why the man was at the school today, as he had been trespassed from the district on a prior date.

Our crews were told by Dayton Police earlier this morning that the investigation involving the man was being handled by Miamisburg Police, however investigators have not said why they were involved with the man.

Moberley said the man was questioned, but not arrested.

Police on the scene at Westwood Elementary School on Oakridge Drive appeared to be searching a backpack and a vehicle in the school’s parking lot around 10 a.m.

Dayton Police on the scene told our crews the case is a Miamisburg police investigation.

Miamisburg police told News Center 7’s Andy Sedlak that the case is an ongoing investigation and the department did not have plans to issue a press release or make a public statement.

Ronnie Harris, who lives across the street from the school, feared the worst when he saw police cruisers at the school.

“Somebody’s over there ready to do something to those kids,” Harris said. “That’s the first thing that come to my mind, since that’s how things are these days. … (But) for us not to know what’s going on and why they’re there, it makes us feel uneasy. We get scared, too.”
