The DDP worked with the Oregon District Business Association and the City of Dayton to put on the event.
“We think it went really, really well,” said Scott Murphy, DDP vice president of economic development.
Out on 5th is a pilot program that shuts down 5th Street in the Oregon District to cars so restaurants and businesses can expand their patios.
“Early reports from our businesses, they’re saying that this is the best weekend that they’ve had in several months, really since the pandemic started,” Murphy said.
Dana Downs, Roost Modern Italian’s owner and executive chef, said the event offered a nice boost in business. She said since the pandemic started, her profits have been down 50 percent. This past weekend, she opened up patio seating outside of her restaurant and turned a horse trailer into an outside bar.

“On a sales end it felt like a normal weekend, so we’re super excited about that,” Downs said.
She was also excited to see some of her regular customers.
“It was really nice to see everyone and do it in a safe way,” Downs said.
Murphy said safety was key for planning purposes.
“The whole reason we’re doing this is to be able to provide the public an opportunity to enjoy the Oregon District, but do it in a socially distant but responsible way, Murphy said.
The pilot program is to run every weekend through October.
