The "big news" is that Robert Huizenga, MD from NBC's The Biggest Loser is coming to Kettering to speak at the 4th Annual Kettering Health Network Health and Wellness Symposium on May 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the James S. Trent Arena.

Dr. Huizenga, better known as Dr. H, is an associate professor of Clinical Medicine at UCLA and the author of multiple scientific papers on the aggressive non-surgical, drug-free approach to obesity. He has been on the last 16 seasons of The Biggest Loser and is the former LA Raiders team physician. Dr. H will be discussing how positive lifestyle changes can impact diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

"I heard Dr. H speak at the annual national American College of Cardiology meeting and thought he was funny, engaging, and full of knowledge about exercise," said Harvey S. Hahn, MD, FACC Director, Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program and Director, Cardiac Noninvasive Laboratory, Kettering Medical Center. "I contacted him and he was more than happy to come out and speak for us. I am really excited about his two presentations as he has inspiring information for people trying to lose weight as well as for professionals trying to help people reach their goals."

The Health and Wellness Symposium is open to all - from doctors to the average person who is looking for ways to be healthier.

"We are offering seminar topics and speakers that are relevant to the general community, as well as medical community," Dr. Hahn added. Medical professionals can earn CME or CEU credit for attending the symposium.

Event participants can expect live cooking demonstrations and sessions on how to start an exercise program. A healthy lunch is included with registration and there will be vendor booths available as well as enter-to-win door prizes.

"Health and wellness is a huge focus for Kettering Health Network," Dr. Hahn said. "We are committed to providing expert healthcare and treatments to the community, and our commitment to our patients extends beyond our facility walls. We believe in encouraging everyone to lead healthier lives in their day-to-day routines. The Health and Wellness Symposium is a fun and educational event to motivate the community to continue to make positive lifestyle choices."
