A man called dispatchers around 7:11 a.m. near Ridge Avenue at Triangle Park.
In that 911 call obtained by News Center 7, he describes the moment his girlfriend was reported shot.
“There was a guy who just shot my girlfriend. We were at Triangle Park, and we’re heading to the hospital right now,” he told dispatchers. “You’re going to be okay, babe.”
News Center 7’s Malik Patterson said that the caller described, moment-by-moment, what happened.
“He just ran into us at the park,” the man told dispatchers. “We’re at Triangle Park. We’re headed to the hospital right now. He just turned right. He’s in a black, little black car.”
The caller continued driving his girlfriend to a local hospital.
“He’s got you, baby, I got the dog,” the man said. This was one of the last things he said as he pulled into the area.
The man stated that she was shot in the neck and was not seeing blood.
Neighbors told Patterson that for a shooting to happen that early at Triangle Park is scary.
“It’s crazy because there are children around here,” said Kyra Cupp. “I think it’s senseless that people do these acts of violence and stuff.”
She and Joseph Colmes say that so many people take their dogs to Triangle Park. Colmes told Patterson that he feels that 2026 has off to a violent start and wants it to slow down.
“I think that I’ll be spending a lot more time if I’m not at work and inside.”
News Center 7 has reached out to the Dayton Police Department for more information and is waiting to hear back.
We will continue to follow this story.
