Police were called out to the school on Wayne Avenue after reports of a fight around 10:41 a.m., according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.
A spokesperson for Dayton Public Schools said in a statement Wednesday afternoon that the school was placed under a precautionary shelter-in-place after “multiple student altercations in the hallway.” It was lifted around 11:37 a.m.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, we obtained dramatic video showing the chaos inside the school when the fights broke out.
Dozens of students were fighting, creating a large brawl near the front of the school.
News Center 7’s Amber Jenkins showed the video to a grandmother of a Belmont student. She said she was concerned for student safety.
“I don’t know how they can do that, but it’s just so many kids here at the school,” Vickie Strassberg, of Dayton, said.
Staff worked to de-escalate the situation, and police were called out of an abundance of caution.
News Center 7 sent a crew to the school. They reported seeing at least seven cruisers outside the school.
“The safety and well-being of all students is the District’s utmost priority. Unfortunately, altercations are common in the Spring in school districts across the country,” the district spokesperson said. “In a proactive attempt to get ahead of Spring incidents, our Security Resource Officers and Principals met in March to discuss comprehensive planning, critical issues, and ways to avoid student confrontation and conflict.”
News Center 7 has reached out to Dayton Police to learn more about whether anyone was detained. We haven’t heard back at the time of this report.
