In a statement on Thursday, founder Steve Barnhart said a Stage 2 tumor was found on one of his kidneys in early April.

“While not immediately life threatening, it needed to be dealt with as soon as possible,” he stated.

In June, Barnhart started the process of having the mass and half of one of his kidneys removed.

He was able to return home in mid-June to continue his recovery following two successful operations.

“My outlook is very positive, and I am currently looking past this health crisis and onto my continuing road to recovery and a long life ahead,” he said.

Barnhart thanked his medical team at Kettering Hospital and Cancer Center for their care. He also thanked the hospital’s nursing staff, which he called the “unsung heroes” of his story.

“As always, thank you all for your kind wishes and support during this process,” Barnhart said at the end of his statement.
