As reported on News Center 7 Daybreak, a federal judge ruled the Trump Administration’s decision to end the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of Haitians to be unfair.

TRENDING STORIES:

With the potential end of the TPS program, there has been so much uncertainty for the City of Springfield, which is believed to be the home of 10 to 15 thousand Haitians.

The federal judge decided to indefinitely pause that planned termination, which stops the federal government from revoking the legal status and work permits of active enrollees.

The decision also stops the enrollees from being arrested or deported.

The City of Springfield Mayor Rob Rue said in a statement that this “Provides clarity and stability for families who are already part of our community.”

Rue then goes on to say that the unnecessary disruption has created an “uncertainty that serves no one.”

Residents are worried that Springfield might become the next stop for ICE.

Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno was critical of the judge’s ruling.

He said, “When a Democrat president can create a temporary program and an unelected Democrat judge can unilaterally block a duly-elected Republican president from ever undoing it, we do not live in a democracy. It’s not Permanent Protected Status.”

Moreno also said that the “outrageous decision cannot stand.”

News Center 7 has reached out to Governor Mike DeWine’s Office about the ruling, but we have not heard back.
