As reported on News Center 7 at 6:00, firefighters responded to the 700 block of Huffman just before 3 p.m. on reports of a house fire.

When our news crew arrived at the scene, they saw several neighbors emerge from their homes, watch the firefighters, and talk to each other.

TRENDING STORIES:

News Center 7’s Malik Patterson said that firefighters focused on the backside of the home.

That’s where they believed the fire started.

They went into a defensive mode, meaning they operated from the outside of the burning home.

Fire officials told Patterson that the family was inside at the time of the fire.

Everyone made it out safely with no injuries.

Dayton Fire District Chief Bob Barnes said they faced some challenges with this fire.

“The fire wasn’t hanging on the house next door,” he said. “So, we were worried about, you know, another house involved, but we were able to quickly knock it down and get it under control.”

The fire was contained to a single bedroom.

Barnes said that they have contacted the Red Cross to help the family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
